Survey Says...

As promised, we are devoting this issue of our newsletter to the results of our February survey. We'd like to extend a big thank you to all who responded. The survey garnered a high rate of response with 1,207 unique respondents over a two-week period from February 21 through March 7. Of the respondents, 837 were managers and 351 were non-managers. This response rate has given us a statistically significant sample from which we can draw important conclusions that reflect overall workforce opinions. Our major findings are included below.

People are working longer and harder than one year ago:
* 60.7% said they work longer and harder than one year ago
* 18.6% said their jobs are easier than one year ago

And managers are working even harder than everyone else:
* 64.4% of all managers who responded are working longer and harder
* 15.9% of all managers who responded said their jobs are getting easier

Most people give their bosses a lot of credit, rating their bosses...
* 16% Excellent
* 59% Very good or good
* 25% Not so good or very bad

The three most important supervisory skills are:
* Motivating employees to perform [37.7%]
* Providing employees with feedback [27.6%]
* Helping employees meet their needs [11.7%]

The three most difficult supervisory skills are:
* Motivating employees to perform [28.3%]
* Terminating low performers [20.3%]
* Holding employees accountable [19.0%]

The top three supervisory skills people want their own boss to improve are:
* Providing employees with feedback [28.3%]
* Helping employees meet their needs [16.5%]
* Holding employees accountable [13.9%]
